SAGNA WANTS THIRD SPOT

Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has said that he wants to get revenge for the broken leg he suffered in a match against Tottenham earlier in the season by grabbing the third spot ahead of their North London rivals. Tottenham and Arsenal are currently locked in the battle for the third position, which will guarantee automatic Champions League group stage progression.

If the team finishes in the fourth place, then they have to go through a qualifying match prior to the group stages. Arsenal recently overtook Spurs in the Premier league table. Bacary Sagna broke his leg earlier in the season in the match against Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Following the defeat, Arsenal were down in the 15th position in the table. However, they have made a quite amazing recovery in the Premier league and are now the favourites ahead of Tottenham to finish in the third position. One of the main reasons for the return of Arsenal has been the availability of Bacary Sagna at right back. Following his injury, Arsenal were playing without a proper right back, but since he has returned, Arsenal have just lost one match – the 4-0 loss at the hands of AC Milan at the San Siro.

“It has marked me forever. It was the first big injury of my career. I knew straight away that it was serious. I heard a crack and the pain I felt was horrendous. It felt like my leg was totally bent and I knew immediately that I would be out for a while. When I arrived at the hospital, they told me I needed surgery. For 10 minutes I felt really low, with tears in my eyes,” Sagna said in an interview given to the Arsenal Magazine. Sagna will be making his 198th Arsenal appearance against Aston Villa.
