Gareth Southgate and his England players won Group D after the slender victory over former leaders Czech Republic at the Wembley Stadium earlier this week. Manchester City attacker scored the only goal of the game in the first quarter to give England the win over the Czechs in their final group match. Sterling is the recipient of the two England goals at the Euro 2020 tournament till date. He scored the winning goal in their tournament opener against Croatia before his team played out an uninspiring goalless draw against home nations rivals Scotland.

England manager Southgate brought in several fresh legs into his team for the Czech game and the Three Lions easily produced their best game of the tournament till date. Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire, and Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish were all brought into the starting XI for the first time in the tournament and they played their respective parts on the way to an impressive 1-0 win over Czech Republic.

Arsenal attacker Saka was named the best player at the end of the game to highlight his influence on the pitch against the Czechs. The Arsenal footballer has now won the best player award in each of his last two starts for the Three Lions. On his part, Villa talisman Grealish was the provider of the winning goal scored by Sterling, while Maguire ensured that England were not breached at the tournament. The Three Lions picked up a clean sheet in each of their first two games with Manchester City star John Stones and Aston Villa player Tyrone Mings in defence and the team made it three clean sheets in three games with the result against the Czechs. Stones started the game alongside Maguire.

England will now face Germany for a place in the quarterfinals after the Germans scored a late goal to secure a 2-2 draw against a spirited Hungary team and book their place in the knockout stage as the second team in Group F behind leaders France.
