Ahead of the league encounter between the two clubs at the Emirates Stadium, visitors West Brom knew that only a win or draw with the Gunners will maintain theirfaint survival hopes. In the end, they were  beaten convincingly by Arsenal.

The Gunners took the lead through young English player Emile Smith-Rowe with his first goal in the Premier League. Smith-Rowe found the back of the net with the game’s opening goal with a left volley that left Sam Johnstone with no chance of saving in the West Brom goal.

Ivorian international Nicholas Pepe added a second goal in grand style for Arsenal who took a 2-0 half-time lead as a result. Pepe took his tally to 12 goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season after he unleashed an unstoppable strike to double his team’s advantage in the first half.

Brazilian national team player Willian sealed the win for the Gunners in the second half with a well taken free-kick after West Brom attacker Matheus Pereira had pulled a goal back to halve the deficit for his team.

Willian had not scored for the Gunners in hia debut season at the club until the game against the Baggies at the weekend. It took the former Chelsea player 37 games to break his duck for Arsenal.

With the result against the Baggies, Arsenal stay ninth on the league standings but they were able to move to within four points of North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in seventh place with three games to go in the race for Europa League football.
