MATIC HAPPY FOR CHELSEA

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic says that it is extremely good that Arsenal dropped points during the weekend. Chelsea came into the last weekend one point ahead of Arsenal, although their leader to the top of the table would be under threat if Manchester City won their matches in hand. It was a difficult match against Fulham for Chelsea given that they had played in the Champions League only a few days ago. Arsenal were not involved in the Champions League during the midweek action. Hence, they were favourites to get the three points against Stoke City at the Britannia stadium.

Arsene Wenger’s men, however, could only manage a 1-0 defeat, while Chelsea managed a 3-1 win courtesy of a hat-trick from summer signing Andre Schurrle. Chelsea were extremely disappointing in the first half, as they created a little opportunities. In the second half, they were much more purposeful about their attack and were very much disciplined when it came to defending. This helped them get a 3-0 lead inside 20 minutes of the second half. Eden Hazard, who has been brilliant throughout the season, created Schurrle first two goals, while Fernando Torres set up the German international fora brilliant hat-trick.

Matic was involved throughout the 90 minutes as he has done more often than not since the £ 21 million move from Benfica in January.

“Like we said before, we will play game by game, to win every game if it is possible and we don’t look too much at other clubs. But for us it is good if our rivals lose some points and on Saturday Arsenal lost so that is good for us. We tried to play the same football in the first-half also but Fulham didn’t give a lot of space for us to move, to play our football,” Matic told www.ilovearsenal.net.
